Fuel Gauge acting cray!!

So I noticed the other day that while driving that my needle will fluctuate on a 96 4runner 3.4 - Very slowly. When I stop the needle goes down at a slow pace and when I accelerate it slowly goes back up.. can anyone give me a heads up on what may be the deal??

Sounds like you have a case of the "teenage girls"

The fuel guage will move a little depending on the angle of the truck and fuel sloshing around in the tank. Like parking on a steep hill will show a different level than sitting on flat land.

For example I have the truck on right now and the needle is way under E.. and the truck is full, at least 3/4 of a tank. Im on a flat street.

It's very common for these fuel gauges to go bad over time. Most common fix is replacing the sender unit that's in the tank.

Mine doesn't fluctuate so much but will show empty when I've got 6 gallons (1/3 ish) left in the tank.

Mine started acting funky a couple weeks ago. I didn't realize anything was wrong until I was driving to work one morning and noticed that my gas gauge was reading slightly more fuel than the night before. I wasn't sure when I filled up last, so I pulled into the nearest gas station. Damn thing 18 gallons. I must have literally been running on fumes.

When I filled it up the gauge said I was completely empty, with the gas light blinking. Then it would alternate between saying I was completely full, to saying I was bone dry empty. Now days it vaguely resembles what's in the tank. Like it will say I've burned a quarter tank after going 125 miles, which isn't right.

I have been chasing this problem for over a year. I have replaced the sender and pickup tube--no joy!! Looking for a #3 printed circuit board and have been told they are discontinued and not available. Will take an instrument cluster for a 1999, SR5, sport hood (Canadian built?).

I have a #1 PCB which is not the correct part if anyone needs that part.
