Fuel gauge issues

this is my first T4R. '89 1st gen. The fuel gauge works great on a full tank. At about half tank it quits completely, and the needle dives to empty. Stays there till the next fill-up. So I have to track my mileage carefully. Any suggestions on troubleshooting the fuel gauge issue? TIA for your help

I have the same issue with my 88 22re. I’ve been told it’s probably a bad fuel sending unit and that I’d need to drop the as tank to replace it. I have not gotten around to addressing it yet.
