Fuel Gauge Sensor Top

I just bought a 1990 3.0L and am trying to diagnose on a fuel leak. When I turn the fuel tank on its side gas comes out of the cap with the 5 screws and the electric connector for the fuel sensor. There is also another little hole toward the center that gas comes out of when I turn it onto its side. It appears this hole is suppose to be there but I am not sure why it would be. Is there suppose to be a screw there or what????

Any Ideas? I might just put a screw in there because I think it was leaking and not sure why there would be a hole there!

There's a large hole for the pickup/pump assy and a smaller one for the level sending unit. That's all.

I'm talking about the level sending unit, theres a tiny nail size hole in the level unit. Any Ideas????

I have owned so many 1st gen 4x4's that I loose count sometimes and I've never had the fuel gauge sender leak fuel on any of them. Stop reading under 1/2 tank, yes or not work at all, but never leak fuel. I have had the fuel pump assy leak out of the steel lines from rotting out. Are the senders real rusty? How about the tank? If you're sure it's the gauge sender then try plugging the hole.

I'm sure its the gauge sender. I put water in the tank and tipped it on its side and water came out of a little hole on the top gauge cover. Thanks for your input i will probably just put a screw in the hole with some gasket maker to stop the leak.
