Fuel guage stopped working! Ideas???

So last night I decided to take the Runner out for a short crawl sesh in the hills above my house and while I was heading down a fairly steep slope i noticed that my fuel guage had gone all the way down from where it was (3/4 full) to light on and empty and my center consol LCD range thing went from "210" mi. to "0". So.. As soon as I got to the bottom of the hill I pulled out my flashlight and looked underneith expecting to find a hole in my gas tank or something.. But, nothing. I've tried turning the car off and back on and it did fix the guage in the dash, but the LCD "range" screen in the center consol is still reading "0"... Any ideas??? Has anyone else on here experienced this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated

You might try a system reset by removing the positive battery cable for 15 minutes.:shrug:

I have the same issues in other vehicles, notably in my RX300, and as mentioned the battery reset does it. That also often goes for other gauges.

My guess is that the extreme downhill angle allowed the float (part of the fuel sending unit) in the tank to go all the way down giving the computer a reading it couldn't make sense of and causing the problem.:cheers:

Newbie to the forum here. Just got my wife and myself each an '03 Sport Edition (mine has the V8 though :thumb3. Anyway, glad I found this thread because my wife's is doing the same thing and we were concerned it may be something expensive. Weird that it will simply reset itself by disconnecting the positive cable...will give it a shot tonight...

yea, the reset is used for a few things, thats computers for ya.
