fuel guage trouble

hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and glad to finally find a place for myself. I could read this forum all day....there are so many answers to questions and projects that I would like to do. I have one question and hopefully someone could shed some light.

I have been taking the unit that holds the speedometer and the tach in and out a couple months ago. Ever since this has happened I've noticed that the fuel guage has been acting funny.

Sometimes when I put the in the on position the fuel guage needle would jump to the top to make it look full when I only have 1/4 of a tank. It would randomly do it when it's 1/2 full also.

I was thinking about taking it to the dealer, but don't want to pay to replace the unit. I have this feeling that's the conclusion that they would come up with. What would be the best thing to do?

Dude, i know how you feel. My fuel gauge is exactly like that! I use to get gas according to what the fuel gauge says...now i go according the miles i drive. I fill up every 230 miles of driving. But it just bothers me how the needle isn't accurate. It freaks me out at times when i look at it...sometimes i'm happy cause it says i have a 'full tank' but reality i only have like a 1/4th of a tank. I feel you though.
