Fuel injector cleaner

Just added injector cleaner to my tank and was told by a friend (ex-mechanic) that injector cleaner is basically diesel fuel. He said that adding half a gallon of diesel fuel to a full tank of gas will clean better than any product on the market. Plus it's way cheaper. Anyone ever heard of this or done it?

Chemical composition

Diesel is immiscible with waterPetroleum-derived diesel is composed of about 75% saturated hydrocarbons (primarily paraffins including n, iso, and cycloparaffins), and 25% aromatic hydrocarbons (including naphthalenes and alkylbenzenes).[10] The average chemical formula for common diesel fuel is C12H23, ranging from approx. C10H20 to C15H28

Compare your injector cleaner ingredients against the above.

use your judgement

It is your truck-it may work but why would you intentionally take a chance running diesel fuel through your gasoline engine?

I put that type of advice in the
'old mechanic once saw this work' category-yes he is likely tellling you the truth but again why would you risk it on your vehicle? Did he see this work on a 4Runner or any Toyota?

I am picturing this suggested diesel method worked fine in the 60s and 70s when cars ran regular (leaded) gasoline
and no fuel injectors. Sloppy valve clearances and all of that.

Techron or BG brand cleaners are formulated to run in your gasoline and do the cleaning.

They are documented and researched for their effectiveness and backed by major companies-the diesel fuel method is not....

I am no mechanic. I have used both Techron and the BG products and I recommend the BG44K cleaner.
