Fuel injector help

I have a bad fuel injector. I can't really afford to replace with OEM right now so I'm going to buy a used set off eBay, but I'm having trouble locating the right part. The parts department told me the part number was 23209-62030 but several online sources list that as a 96-97 injector and I have a 98 Limited. The same online sources list 23209-62040 as 98-02 but those injectors are brown in color while mine are gray like the 96-97. Can anyone help me sort this out? Please don't tell me not to buy used or to go buy an aftermarket one. If you can't help with my question just don't reply.

Looks like this one (23209-62030) runs build date 1995.11-1998.07
and the (23209-62040) runs 1998.07- end of Gen 3.
So you need to look at the door sticker to see build date.

You might have an early production 98 4runner using the gray injector.
Motor might have been built in late 97-early 98 way before your runner went down assembly line, while the gray injectors were still being used by Toyota

Whats the 10th digit of you VIN?
If it's an 98 then it should be a "W"

Thanks. I was thinking that was the case but not sure. Ill check my build date when I get home from work but I know the parts department looks up by VIN so I'm sure you're right.

you can plug in your own VIN and compare their prices. Once you can verify the part number itself then shop and compare all you like.

TRDPARTS4U.com may be able to match whatever low price you can find. Good guys and know our 3rd gens better than most dealerships seem to.

I see your disclaimer about not replying except with the conditions stated- but politely I will only say it will save you money in the long run just to do it correctly the first time.

I typically always buy new OEM parts. My dad is the parts manager at the local Toyota dealer so I get a pretty good price. However with his discount one fuel injector is $130 and I just bought six off eBay that have been ohm checked and pressure tested for $85 shipped. I only have one bad injector now so I will have five more should anything happen and this truck has less than one year of DD duties before it becomes a weekend warrior. So while I do agree with you, I'm thinking in this instance this method will work for me.
