Fuel injector voltage

I need to check if the wiring is good to my fuel injectors, and I'd like to see if I'm getting voltage to the connector. Do the fuel injectors fire with 12v, or a lower voltage? I want to connect a lamp to the terminal and see if it flashes when the engine is running.

I'm also looking for a pinout on the connectors on the ECU if anyone has one. I also found that my engine ran a bit smoother with my spare ECU from an '88 than the original '87, are the differences in ECUs?

Plus, I know my problem is with fuel not reaching my cylinder. Is it possible that the valve could be stuck closed keeping air and fuel from entering?

I know nothing about your model year and Toyota has used many different types of injectors.

Most of the time the injectors see battery voltage from the ignition switch and the ground is provided by the ECU.

If I suspect a bad injector, then with the engine running I disconnect them one at a time with the engine running to isolate the bad one.

Some injectors types are low resistance ones ( 2 ohms) and some are high (14 ohms)

A back-probed 12volt test light will also work well. It should flicker like mad.

I know my injectors are good as they were just cleaned and tested. I'll try a test light and see if it lights.

I don't know if you are still having injector problems or not but I saw this thread on Yotatech and thought it might be of some help (although the guys final solution was a bit esoteric to say the least!).

What I'm finding from other sources is that the 22RE uses simultaneous injection, where all four injectors actually fire at the same time. This should be a simple continuity test to see if the #1 injector is wired up with the other 3, and if not, I should be able to simply run new wires from one injector to the #1. I'll be looking at everything tomorrow, hopefully I can be up and running by tomorrow afternoon.

I don't know for certain about ECU year compatibility but "my guess" is the 1985-87 4-Runners/pickups had same ECU for three reasons:

1)single wire oxygen sensor
2)same fuel injectors that have an external resistor (found on passenger side fender wall)
3)When pulling ECU codes 1985-87's have one digit code displayed

What's the difference then between the '87 ECU and the '88? I popped the '88 one in to see if I had a difference in performance, and the engine seems to fun better with it...
