Fuel Leak... Charcoal Cannister?

I have a fuel leak and i have already taken it into a local shop and when they started looking they found a completely torn up cold start fuel line which they replaced. Although that line needed to be replaced the fuel leak still exists. The other day when i parked and turned the vehicle off after a 20 min drive it sounded like my 4-runner was taking a leak on the ground and after looking i realized that it was fuel. When i popped the hood i was able to locate the leak to the line that comes out of the bottom of the Charcoal Cannister. With fuel still pooring out of the line i went and opened the gas tank and realeased the pressure the leak stopped. Is fuel supposed to be going into the charcoal cannister or isnt it supposed to be just fumes? Is just replacing the cannister going to stop the leak? or is there a reason why fuel is getting into the charcoal cannister like a gasket or something?

On the cannister one line goes to the gas tank and the other line says purge where does that purge line go too? Thanks for all the help!

Gas should not be coming out of the canister.
The PURGE line is where the vapor from the tank is fed back into the engine to be burned. The bottom line is where fresh air comes in. There are check valves inside that could be bad, also one in your cap that could be bad. Easiest thing place to start is a new cap.

when you say cap do you mean the cap of the cannister or my actual gas cap?

i had a gas leak once that i thought for sure was coming out the hose you describe but it was coming from higher up where a break line had worn through the gas line. It was behind the top of the motor so it was hard to pinpoint but its worth a check

I'm wondering if finding a new canister might yield better results since a new gas cap hasn't proved successful.

im betting the new gas cap has resolved the problem ..
it's pretty simple

that is kinda shitty to just bounce after getting an answer, as they'll most likely be back sooner or later with another issue.

i popped and left the gas cap off with no issues at all the last week. it'll serve as a temp fix til i can dig deeper into it.
