Fuel light comes on and needle drops to low after driving

Hello,

I just recently got some frame welding done at a local shop. The muffler was removed so they can access the frame area. When I drove away the fuel light came on and needle dropped to zero. I have a full tank of gas. The truck drives fine with no codes. After restarting and driving numerous times, it takes longer for the light to come on, but it eventually does a the needle still drops to low. Can't figure this out.

I had this happen a couple years ago the fuel gauge on my 2000 was erratic. What fixed it was a new ground near the sending unit just splice a new ground and bolt to chassis. My assumption was a rotted out connection.

Edit: ALSO check TSB EL010-00 for fuel gauge inaccuracy issues.

1999 is notorious for fuel tank gauge issues. Try to add a ground to the tank as for some reason. These loose their ground.
