fuel mileage

I have an 06 Sport V8 with 5,000 miles. I just completed 750 miles, mostly highway miles in western CO and UT, pulling an ATV trailer with 1 ATV (total weight of 1,300 lbs). Using fuel burned and miles driven I registered 14.9 mpg. The computer registered 15.4 which is about 3% higher than actual. This is consistent with my earlier tests while many of you report about 10% difference between actual and computer. On the highways and interstates I drove around 75 mph. I think if I had kept the speed around 65-70 mph I could have easily gotten in the low 15s.

3 to 10 % is not that large of a difference since people are getting gas at different geographic locations, have different driving habits, and may have modified their vehicles. For instance I live in an area that can be considered completely flat. Barely a hill to be found and zero mountains. Obviously, I cannot compare my gas mileage to someone how lives in the Rocky

gas mileage

You bring up some good points. So true that most of us have different conditions but always interesting to hear what others are experiencing. So far everything is according to my expectations of the vehicle. Funny how the faster I drive or the more I pull the worse the mileage. I do hope to see a little over 18mpg on my next highway trip w/o trailer.

And why does this surprise you? Cruising at a constant speed is when the engine is the most efficient. I am sure you will be around 16 to 18 mph without a load and on a long trip. Mine gets 18 mpg driving from NJ to NC (a 400 mile trip and very flat) City driving I get closer to 16.

That's pretty good gas mileage you guys get. I only get about 13.2 on average.....

Oh yeah, I can't keep my foot off the gas, and I'm also lifted, with bigger than stock tires....:D
