Fuel Smell

Just recently I have been noticing a smell of fuel coming from the somewhere under the hood. I notice it when I stop at lights or when I stop the car. Its a fairly strong smell inside the cabin. I popped the hood and from my sniffing skills I think its coming from the passenger side of the engine somewhere (which would make sense since thats where the fuel line comes in right?)

Anyone got any things that I might be able to check to narrow down the issue before I get a professional to look at it?

Any parts or areas along the fuel line that might be known weak spots?

Fuel Danger

Fishrod, you're on a slippery slope whenever a potentially open fuel source and high heat are in close proximity. I don't wish to sound too "alarmist", but I would suggest you take your truck immediately to the professionals and have your fuel system serviced. The normal operating temperatures of an exhaust system is high enough to ignite standing gasoline vapors, and is a sure fire hazard if there is liquid fuel spraying around your engine compartment. Please seek professional help as I do not wish to hear of a burned up 4Runner on this forum, and certainly want you and your passengers to remain with us!

My 1993 4Runner also experienced a major engine fire last month. All that's left under the hood are melted plastic and wire harness. It appears that the source of the fire is in the vicinity of the air filter and burned right through the dash board. Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough of where the fuel line is located.

Bad Injector

So it was a bad injector under the plenum. Mechanic replaced the whole injector as he wasnt sure if it was the O ring or not. He had a spare 3vze laying around so that worked out well, got a 2nd hand injector for 20 bucks or something.

No more fuel smell!!
