Full Replacement Guide for SR5 V8 with JBL (Just BLows)

I hope you don`t mind but I gotta question or several lol. I guess that I`ll be hacking into my harness as well. Not gonna be doing anything hardcore, too much. I wanna new head unit, of course, and I plan on NOT using the JBL amp or sub BUT, however, I thought I`d stick with the door speakers and leave them like they are, for now. With that being said since the door speakers will be on the new HU`s amp will it be okay to leave the front crossover in place or should I disconnect? As for the sub(s) and new amp I`ll be using my little Kicker 125 for 2 10"ers and get them to 2 ohms. All this so far seems like not too bad of a job but one of my main concerns is whether to use the steering wheel controls or not? I could be way off but Crutchfield had a harness to use an aftermarket HU to the Toyota harness THEN there was another harness for the steering wheel`s controls, for an extra $80. What should I do before I reach into the wallet? lol Thanks.

You can keep the OEM speakers and run it off the new amp.

WARNING: new amp will be way powerfull most likely blow the POS JBL real real fast

Just buy the Metra ASWC-1 from anywhere, they will range from $50-70 shipped, if you doing a aftermarket amp. then just tap into the wires that i noted in the first post for your 12v constant, accesory, ground and dimmer. 4 wires and $10-15...save the money.

BTW- i am going to add this to the first post, please dont cheap out on tape. BUY 3M SUPER 33. i know its expensive BUT you are doing this yourself, and saving money...so why not spend some money or better materials. IMHO, you dont need to shrink wrap, but thats personal preference. From folling this guide you will save a bunch of money, spend that money you saved on a good soldering iron. I own 3 Solder-It Pro 150 butane irons. Highly recommend it. Also use Master butane. it is high quality filtered fuel. Use something else and you will regret it with clogged iron. buy 0.7mm Diameter Tin Lead Rosin Core Flux Solder Soldering Wire.

I was just gonna use the HU`s amp for the door speakers and the Kicker for the 2 subs. I intend on eventually replacing all the door speakers anyways, only can afford to do so much right now. I`ll figure something out with it lol. Thanks for your help, I`m not blind now going into this.

If you were going to do this on the cheap and not be pushing too much power couldn't you theoretically:

1) Buy an amp that will fit in stock amp location
2) Use existing wiring and an adaptor to connect from the HU to the new Amp
3) Utilize the existing stock speaker wiring and just connect it up to your new amp (the speaker wire already exists just with a strange connector right?)
4) Run new wire for the sub (since it is right there and likely to be much more power)

Any reason why that would not work?

I ordered the Kenwood excelon amp and sub you recommended and am currently installing them. Sub fits perfect with no modifications, the amp almost fits perfect, having to do a little trimming on the mounts of the sub box to get it to sit flush. Should have the install completed tomorrow, will post pics then.

Everyones opinions and and brand preferences are gonna be different of course but I have an excelon x700-5 5ch amp running my system and its a kickass amp..if your not trying to comp with your system and just want clean good sound it fits the bill nicely. I've been doing the car audio thing for over 20 years and have no complaints with the excelon amp or subs ive ran in the past and I am currently running their head unit as well. Some of us just want good clean sound quality on a budget, I'm a cheap ass. Lol
