Fully Custom Spacer Lift ?'s

OK most of the spacer lifts for 4runners are either aluminum or some "polyurethaneplastic" stuff... is there a real reason for this or is just comfort? I am asking because i have the facilities (dad works at a fab shop) to make a steel spacer, i'm just wondering if there is any reason they aren't made from steel already? Is the steel too brittle and not soft enough, like aluminum or what? Thanks for any insight you guys can provide!

The weight advantantages and the ease of maching aluminum versus steel alloys. Plastics can be molded and reproduced easily and at a low cost to the manufacturer.

I would think steel is a little too rough and has no play under pressure. Also - it is too sensitive to the elements - expanding and contracting in hot and cold weather conditions.

Steel also rusts.

If you want a cheap alternative - use a few hockeypucks.

"Hockey puck's" I remember years ago when people used them for body lift spacer's.....lol
