Fun in the Black Hills

Had some fun playing in the Black Hills of SD yesterday (2/18) with fellow T4R.Org member Bigrupp, his friend Nick, and my brother (riding shotgun with me). We found snow, a little mud, many hills to climb, narrow tree-lined trails, some very big mountain lion tracks, and plenty of rocks to crawl over. Included are a couple views of one of the local world-class crawling routes, which unfortunately we were not equipped to do (we were all in nearly-stock rigs) at this time. We did manage some pretty rocky routes, though, and had a really fun day! We WILL return to this area, as there are tons of fun, challenging trails out there.

Nice rock garden, looks like fun!

That's actually nothing compared to the real rock garden. LOL. I found that today. Had to turn around on a nice narrow trail and fight the fresh snow and ice back up the hill. Fun stuff. It had an Extreme Difficulty sticker on the trail marker, but so did the other trail that we came up and it wasn't that bad so we weren't sure what we were in for when we went down it. Can't wait to finish up some mods so I can go further!

Well, we went back out with a couple first gens on Saturday, 3 March. There was more snow this time, which wasn't horrible, unless your tires look like this-

Here's a shot of the end of the day while we were airing up a lot of tires. Really put that little compressor to work.

All in all the day was fun though. Can't beat being out in the hills on a nice day.

It definitely was fun, even with the occasional pulling-out of the "smooth-tire" rig (LOL). Some of those climbs were fairly tough with the snow coverage, both making it slick and hiding the rocks that kept killing momentum. Our Black Hills have some pretty sweet trails! Oh yeah, Nic (mentioned in the opening post) is now "nicola1678" (new forum member--yeah!), and "mytyeerinpie" (Tye) and his friend Justin rounded out our crew this time out. All people I would never have met without this forum, so its influence goes well beyond just good online advice!

Hey there. I am living up in ****inson and I would LOVE to arrange a weekend with you guys sometime. I have a completely stock 4th Gen right now, but I am putting my list together and hopefully ordering my toytech, spidertrax and UCAs along with procomp wheels and some tires which have to be decided on.
