Functional Hood Scoop

Out the box 2004 Sports Edition hood scoop is non-functional. There is a plastic spacer that keeps it closed. It looks like it can be easily removed. Has anyone done that? It should run some more cool air in the engine bay. I'm not sure if there are any advantages, because intake is in the right fender. Any ideas?

The function of the hood scoop is for diesel engined 4Runners. If you open it up, it will dump plenty of dirt, water and debris all over the engine but not much else.
I've seen a 3rd gen route ducting to his airbox from the hood scoop but I don't think it did anything except clutter up the engine bay.

I saw that the Toyota Landcruiser Prado in Australia you can get a 3.0 L Turbo Diesel.

Who cares if it's functional? It looks good on my truck. And it's a masculine touch to make it stnd out with al the missy SUV's on the road.

???? unsure of why anyone woould ever in their right mind want a diesel. They are loud, they stink, and good luck finding fuel, unless your near truck stops. maybe i am wrong, but i would never want a diesel.

Diesel engines get great gas mileage and they output a lot of torque.

Mine too but nobody believes me.

I've also found it to be a great spot to hold water after your all done washing and drying the Runner only to dribble out and leave some new water spots. I now wash the Runner with the hood facing downhill.

This has been brought up before, but has anyone actually been bold enough to feed air tubes from the scoop to the airbox yet, like this 3rd Gen owner did?

It's more bling-bling + trouble than anything else for many reasons.

1) more clutter in engine bay
2) water+dirt in air box and filter
3) noise anyone?

I've never heard a hood scoop being referred to as "masculine". So,what's "feminine",running boards?

I'll open it up after 4.0 Supercharger install sometime next year. pics coming.
