Funky radio display

Ok, I was driving home this evening and turned the radio off for a moment while I was talking on the cell. When I turned it back it the display was all funky. Pretty much just a bunch of black squares. I changed radio stations, modes (FM1, FM2, CD, etc), and turned the radio off and then back on again. The display wouldn't change back. Once I got home, I turned the truck off, then turned the key back to the ACC position and the radio display was back to normal. I've got the standard 6-disc unit (non-JBL) in my '06 Sport. The picture below isn't the greatest as I had to take it using the camera on the cell phone while driving. I also did a search for "radio display" and couldn't find anything.

Has ayone else experienced a similar problem?

Wow that is a funky looking display!

Sorry no help as I've never seen that on my radio(s) but hopefully it was just a fluke

That is weird....maybe a power surge?? But if it does it again, take another picture and then take it in since it's under warranty.

That darned radio again...

Ok, so it's been a while since I last posted about this. The problem that I first noted at the start of the thread hasn't returned. Just a one time thing. Or so I thought.

Walked out to the vehic this morning and thought "Darn it's cold out." Hopped in the T4R, started it up, looked at the temperature readout "Yep, 40

Funky Radio Display

I have a 2008 Sport Edition and am expeience the same problem with my display. I am on my second radio now which was installed by my dealer after the first one went bad for the funky display.

The second radio is now acting up. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the malfunction. Temperature has no effect on the occurances. The only way to clear it is to shut the car off and restart.

Has anyone seen a TSB on this? I am scheduled to bring my 4Runner in to my dealer this week and they are planning to address this problem. I have aobut 35,400 miles on it and I will be darned if they try to strtch this out of warranty.

Just last night my radio was changing stations all by it self. The display was fine. I turned off the radio and everything was fine for now.

I had something odd happen to my radio display one evening too and then the next day or next start up it went away, it wasnt a particularly cold or hot day that night.

My 2007 did this early on, only about 20k. The radio worked fine except for unchanging gibberish on the screen. Luckily the first thing I did was take a picture, because it went away when I turned the ignition off then on again.

The dealer replaced the unit with no problem when I showed them the picture. I have since put in a Scion Stereo.
