Funky tire wear question

About 3 weeks ago a buddy at work said it looks like I needed an alignment as there was more wear on the inside tread on my driver's side. I got it lined up about 16 months ago when I did the lift. We took it on vacation in july and went 1500 miles and evrything seemed fine and I noticed no weird tire wear. After a 400 mile kayakin trip/archery shoot jaunt this past weekend, I now definetly see wear. Weird thing is it's just on one area about 16-18 inches long.
It's down to the wear indicator in just that one area. I raised it up and checked the ball joints and evrything there seems solid. Spun the tire and saw no humps or bumps.
My buddy thinks I have bad tire. I've got an appointment for an alignment on firday. Not sure it needs it but it's a place to start.
Tires are Big O AT's 265 75 16 and have about 39k on them. I reckon I'll be needin new ones before Christmas.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like a belt sepereation in the tire. take it back to BigO and they should take care of it. Not totally uncommon. Good Luck

you said that you already checked the LBJs and that is what I wanted to recommend.

I had strange wear on both front tires and it helped to catch the LBJs in time before they failed, they were on their "way out"

I would check the inner tie rod as well. I just went to get an alignment and there was too much play in the tie rod to align it. The tech grabbed the boot to show me and he had his hand covered in grease. One more thing to fix.

It was the driver's side tie rod. Had it replaced and my 60-64 mph wobbles went away.
Haven't had it on the interstate yet, Anxious to see if it feels better @ 70-75.

Good to hear man. Glad I was correct and you got it fixed. THat is now on my list as well. They quoted me $134 installed so I guess thats not too bad.

Mine was $198 installed with an alignment. The dude was surprised when they tried to order a cheaper tierod and I told him I wanted better. I got one from NAPA with a lifetime warranty.
I told him it's a Toyota and it only has 249,000 miles on it and I'm not plannin on sellin it. I was serious.

I have a similar tire problem. I just ordered my new duratracs today and while looking at the tires that are on the truck now (at revos) I noticed that the outter portion of the tires are worn worse then the inner portion. Significantly. Theres still pretty decent tread on the inner but the outter and middles are pretty much gone. Any ideas? I will definitely get an alignment but I want to make sure this doesn;t happen again. I rotate the tires every 5k
