So I'm standing at the center counter of my dealership and a woman comes in asking for a salesman. She says she has a new Jeep Cherokee and absolutely hates it. It has 800 miles on it and she can't stand the thing. She said she wants a vehicle that can drive on the beach better than what the Jeep can handle and wants a 4Runner. I got a kick out of hearing this lol.

At most of the beaches I've been to (admittedly not a lot), I've seen Camry's and Corolla's do fine and not get stuck! Granted, I'm assuming she wasn't wheeling any dunes and was just going out to sunbathe...

I'd wager she'd have had the same response if she had initially purchased a Rav4, the pathetic equivalent to the equally pathetic Chero-car.

Soft sand isn't exactly cakewalk. Yea anyone can drive near water in packed sand. Try soft banks or dunes.

Agreed on the soft sand. When I drive on the soft sand at the OBX, you better be aired down and have 4x4 or you'll bury yourself really fast. I've driven out there not aired down and did ok, but airing down makes a world of difference.

It ain't brain surgery. As noted, air down and put it in 4wd and don't be a dumbass. All of those things can be done in a Jeep.

Years ago, a group of us went over to Silver Lake State Park, along Lake Michigan. For those of you who haven't been, it's worth the trip in the summer. Check out the vids on YouTube. At any rate, it's an off-road park, all sand dunes, beaches, etc. Fantastic off-road machines come there to play.

So, the 4Runner was bone stock, with the factory street tires on it. I've never been, didn't know how to drive on the dunes, at all. Didn't know the pathways, how to get from point A to point B. A friend of a friend who lives up there has a nice Jeep Wrangler modified specifically for the sand decides to help me by driving me around in my 4Runner. He gets in, starts driving us around, up and down the dunes, showing me how to use the 4-wheel drive system...nice guy, but the first thing he says is, "Wow, this thing drives nice,...real nice. This is effortless. I wish my Jeep was like this." So, I don't know if he was just being nice, or he really was honest, but I've been up there playing several more times and have had a great time. The point being, there may be some key differences that make even a stock 4Runner a great off-road vehicle.
