When I did the 5speed swap I experimented with an Ebay clutch from F1. I ran the Stage 2 unit for 2yrs with no issues. Bolted on a TRD S/C and it started slipping in 3rd at WOT, something I just don't do much so it was no big deal.
That clutch bit the dust while on the Rubicon. Fun times...
I decided to make sure the power would get to the transmission with the Stage 3 6-puck clutch. The pressure plate seemed to be identical to the stg2.
This clutch disk gets the power transferred and has been good for a year. There isn't really any nice way to start off with this type of clutch though. Tons of chatter if slow released from an idle. Only way to do it smoothly is a few throttle bumps. I'm so used to it that it was really weird to drive something that was normal.
The issue now...
From a stop, going forward or reverse, right after I hear the clutch disc contact the flywheel, just a light shhhhhhhhhhh as normal, there's then a growling sound until it's completely engaged. Almost sounds like I'm burning out from a red light on these 35's.
No slipping
No noise while idling, clutch pedal depressed or free
I can't recall hearing it on the first couple of stops while it's cold.
I've never heard this before and I've searched everywhere for similar clutch noise but all I come up with is the normal throw-out bearing noise with clutch released at idle. I'll make a short vid tomorrow.
I'm alright with replacing the clutch with another 6 puck but not trying to spend $400+ for the real race stuff. Like I said, the drive-ability is not effected at all, just the noise is getting annoying and it means something is not right and wants some of this beautiful man's attention. :thanks:
What's in there now. I know, I know...Fleabay junk
