Fuse box location

About to wire up my dual battery and I am thinking about mounting my Bluesea fuse block inside the cab, above the pedals. My thought being it would be easier to wire other switches/accessories later, rather than going through the firewall every time. What's everyone's thoughts? Pros, cons? Is rather do it right the first time! Thanks everyone!!!

Personally, I wouldn't do it. There's not much room there and it's a really hard angle to work on. I think there is a lot more room under the hood.

And the high power wires under the dash are not good, that's why most accessories use a relay. Not that I always use them when I should, but it is generally recommended.

How many things are you planning on adding? 1-2 runs through the firewall is pretty simple. Even 3-4 wouldn't be that tough.

I would put the fuse block under the hood, you've got a lot more room for a clean installation under the hood.

Ditto, you want to fuse as close to the battery as possible. Now you could run a master fuse for the block at the battery but for multiple accessories you're kind of defeating the point.

Are you going to prewire all the load handling cables to and from the battery into the cabin? Where are you going to route those cables? Are most of your accessories going to be inside the cabin, or under the hood?

Personally, I'd put a fuse box under the hood somewhere and then if you have enough interior accessories, an auxiliary inside the cabin. Ideally, I'd add a fusebox/relay box combination so I can connect up relays if needed as well.

What I really would like to see is a product like the switch pros product where I can easily connect my own switches. I think the sPOD allows this but it doesn't seem as nice as the switch pros one. I do not like the little chicklet buttons the switch pro has.

Fortunately, I've only added one switch so far inside the cabin (for dual batteries). I don't see a point for a compressor switch in the cabin without air lockers. I will eventually add switching for more lights, I just hope I don't have to make my own switching solution.

Would also recommend under the hood to be as close to the battery as possible. Especially because 2 or 4 awg wire is expensive and that's quite a bit of distance. You could always check out an sPOD if you're looking to reduce the number of wires through the firewall. They're slick but kinda expensive.

I went with a Blue Sea 12 circuit with the negative bus and a 90amp circuit breaker. Used a fuse block bracket from Overland Equipped that fits the 5th-Gen 4runners. Here's a couple pics of my setup:

[MENTION=110632]RunnerPDX[/MENTION] damn I like that better than the Pelfreybilt one I just ordered!!! I was wondering why they had 2 circuit breaker spots cut out. Also, what are you running that you need a 90a breaker?? I'm planning on doing my wiring sometime soon and have no idea what size wire to use for (+) and ground connections. I think I'm going to run a 40a breaker. Are you using 2 or 4awg??
