Future TE owner, have some questions.

I currently own a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, manual, TRD, Xcab. I will be in a market for a 4runner TE in the next 6-12 months. I just bought a brand new house (first home) so I want to make some mortgage payments and not jump in having a car payment so quickly. :)

Here are my questions regarding the 4runner TE.

1. Does the non navi TE have a backup rear camera? Cant seem to find the answer to this in the 4runner brochure that I picked up. Reason I ask is because my friends 2010 Toyota Tacoma, 4x4, TRD off road, (non nav) has the camera built into the rear view mirror. I thought that was a neat feature. Does the 4runner have this??

Does anyone know if this will be an option for 2012 model?

2. The new 4.0l V6 has a direct injected engine. Does anyone know if it direct injection only? For instance the Lexus IS350 and Lexus ISF both have port and direct injection together, 2 injectors per cylinder. This combination seems to be the key to prevent no carbon build up over time in the valves that plagues current DI only engines. The Lexus IS250 only has DI and many owners have reported hesitation and rough idling at 30k miles. Other manufacturers like VW and Audi have had serious issues with carbon build up on their DI engines. I will keep this 4runner 100k+ miles and I hope Toyota did their engineering homework on how to eliminate the issues with DI only engines.

Cant wait to be a current 5th gen 4runner TE owner. I love to go on trails and expeditions. Last week I went to Death Valley and visited the Saline Hot Springs. In 2 weeks I want to do the Mojave Road expedition.

My Tacoma.

Snow started to get deeper and deeper and hitting underneath of the Tacoma. The uphill incline did not help either. So i locked the rear diff and put on snow chains and trekked on. Boy, chains plus diff lock is being like a tank. It was taring up the dirt.

I always loved the 1st Gen tacos and thanks for the pictures. To answer Question #1; Yes the backup camera is standard on rear-view mirror in the TE as per the Toyota website. I don't believe any details on the 2012 model is available yet but I'll put my money that it will be similarly optioned.

Thanks.

I test drove a TE today and I couldn't find it in the brochure. But you are correct, I found it on the Toyota website within 2 minutes.

Thanks for the info!
