FYI: 2003 4RTunner Alloy wheel recall/warning

I came accross this on nthsa's web site:

Make: TOYOTA Model: 4 RUNNER Year: 2003 Recall Number: 02V339000 Summary: ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH FIVE FACTORY ALLOY WHEELS (MODEL 6934 AND 6936), WITH FACTORY LLAT, AND WITH PORT INSTALLED WR4, FOUR ALLOY WHEEL UPGRADE PROCESSED AT THE JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA PORT AND DISTRIBUTED BY SOUTHEAST TOYOTA DISTRIBUTORS IN THE STATES OF ALABAMA, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA, WHEN THE VEHICLES WERE PROCESSED AT THE PORT, AN ALLOY TIRE/WHEEL UPGRADE WAS INSTALLED. THE UPGRADE INCLUDED 4 ALLOY WHEELS. THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE/ALLOY WHEEL WAS NOT CHANGED. THE SPARE TIRE REQUIRES THE USE OF A DIFFERENT STYLE OF WHEEL NUT TO ATTACH IT TO THE VEHICLE. Consequence: IF THE SPARE TIRE/WHEEL IS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE USING THE WHEEL NUTS PROVIDED FOR THE UPGRADE ALLOY WHEEL, DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL COULD RESULT AND COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A LOOSE WHEEL. It is a fairly restricted recall due to Port modification of the 4Runner. I am really starting to hate these "port forced options" in specific regions. And if you don't like these options, it takes forever to order directly from the factory! :bs:

I'm not sure but I think Highlander's model numbers begin with 69 and the 4Runners begin with 86. correct me if I'm wrong.
Not good in any case!

You are right Highlander starts with 69 and 4Runner starts with 86. I posted the recall at Edmunds 4Runner forum and they realized the mistake. The moderater from Edmunds says there is a recall for both Highlander and 4Runner.

My theory is both vehicles are affected and NTHSA got their report messed up. Hopefully we will come up with the correct answer soon. Either way, it is a fairly limited recall.

SET is a privately owned distributor unlike the one my mom works for (CAT). They have all kinds of stuff they put on thats not factory... My dad's 97 4runner is a SET toyota and it has the etched glass with the vin numbers and different wheels.

I have one of these 03 SET 4Runners. with the wheel and tire upgrade.What will happen? Will I recieve something in the mail or what?

That is my understanding, you should get a letter if your affected. Of course the recall said 4Runner, but used the code for the Highlander. I would call the dealer and try to get a manager. Now as I understand it, your OK until you get a flat. Hopefully you can figure it out before you get a flat.
