Hey Everyone,
First real post, but thought I'd start with a build thread to introduce my truck. It's an '07 V8 Limited, with the all time 4wd, @ about 130,xxx miles. Still runs pretty strong and I like to think I take pretty good care of her.
Big car guy and have had several modfied vehicles in the past: E36 BMW, E46 BMW, two lifted Chevy 1500's, this is my second 4Runner, and various beaters. Because of my experience, I chose to take my build slow and ensure I cover everything, while hopefully only doing major steps once. For example, we'll start with my lift and first mods.
Originally, this is the stock truck with just a Surco roof rack on 265's. Suspension was soggy with body roll, but nothing I didn't expect out of an old truck. Still, she had plenty of traction and never got stuck on trails or the occasional mudhole.
But recently, I finally received the promotion I wanted to so decided to finally pull the trigger and get my lift. I knew with high miles the front steering & suspension definitinely would need replacing as well, so I planned to have this all done together.
All the work was done at 4Wheel Parts in Norcross GA after many discussions. Some people might frown upon this, but a couple reasons I chose this option. 1 - this is my daily driver, and I couldn't afford to have it down for too long. 2 - I'm not as skilled a mechanic to do the extensive work I wanted. 3 - I couldn't afford a cautiously mistake as my daily driver. But in the end they did a great job, and always have someone I can go back to.
Lift & replacement parts list:
Front Coils - OME Red mid stiff coils recommended for V8's or bumpers
Trim Packer
Sport Struts
Rear Coils
Sport Shocks
Coil Strut Level lift - 1 inch stacker lift.
Outer Tie Roads
Inner Tie Roads
Sway Bar Links
Icon Upper Control Arms & ball joints
Lower control arms & joints
Cam Bolts
Cam Plate
Cam Assmelby
Original plan was for Icon UCA's, 2.5 EMU coil lift front & back, plus a 1 inch stacker, and all new replacement steering componements. While the truck was torn apart, like always, the guys found the LCA's were rusted tight to the CAM bolts. So new LCA's were needed & associated CAM assembly parts for alignment. Pain in the a$$, but I expected something else to possibly need replacement as well.
Here she is after everything.
Still have 265's since they have so much tread left. After it all settled in, I couldn't be happier. She handles much better than stock, and the front stiffer coils for the v8 did not result in any rear rake as feared, and aren't much stiffer than the rear if at all. She sits pretty level once the front settled in.
I would condsider my suspension done funless I ever go to a 1.5 or 2 inch stacker, but several years down the road. But there always are drivetrain upgrades.
This is a long term build thread, so feel free to subscribe and ask questions about the parts I have. Plan to add some lights & brackets soon, so stay updated.
