Gaia/Google maps questions

I am working on simplifying my gps navigation setup. I have decided to go IOS iPad for my electronic nav for on and off-road. I intend to use Gaia for off-road and google maps for turn by turn nav when needed for on-road nav. I have transferred all my data to Gaia and use the premium sub. I have downloaded all the maps for off-line nav both Gaia and google maps. I found a great feature in Gaia that will send Gaia waypoint to google maps for turn by turn nav. Now my questions; Is anyone using this setup? What problems are you having? And are you having problems with downloading the offline google maps? I am finding that it’s hard to download my custom sections.

I've found Google Maps a bit unpredictable with the downloaded maps. I wouldn't rely on it for any long periods of offline navigation, as it seems to clear the downloads with no warning sometimes.

Remember that Google's business model is collect data on you, so providing a fully offline service is low on their priority list. They need you to be online to collect your data. (end of rant)

I always keep Maps.me installed as a backup, as it stores entire regions offline (or whole states\countries if you want!). It's not as good for routing, but it'll get you home in a pinch.

I don’t know about Gaia, but with Motion X you can just download the maps offline.

While it’s not officially supported, there is a way to download Google maps including very detailed satellite imagery permanently onto the iPad for offline use which is what I do for off-road NAV.

I picked this solution because there is no subscription cost and the app was pretty cheap / 1 time cost.
