Garage door light flashes when programming homelink, but no dice?

Just got mine working. Here are my steps that worked for me:

1. Use the original remote door opener (at first I was using a replacement that didn't work).
2. Press door remote at the same time as the homelink button. Light on homelink should go from slow orange to fast green.
3. Press "smart" or "learn" button the garage opener controller
4. Press homelink button again.

That's it! Good Luck.

depending on how old/new your door is, you have to keep pressing the button until the door opens/closes.

step 4 is either 1 press or 3-4 like me.

For me:

0) **Follow instructions in manual to reset (wipe out) the homelink**

1 ) Hold garage remote button a few inches from homelink button. Press both and wait until the light flashes rapidly

2) Walked into garage and pressed learn button on garage door motor

3) Back to car and followed instructions for programming with a rolling code opener (which is pressing button for 2 secs, twice)

Then it worked. But not the first time I tried.

I think the big help was erasing the homelink memory and starting from scratch. That is a big step.

Kudos once again to this forum and members! Helped me out a few times on my old 4Runner (2004) and now my 1 day old 2014! Was pulling my hair out following manual's instructions ... but your steps worked perfectly!

I tried programming mine when I first got it and it was a no go.

But just last week (6 months later) I got it to work. The difference? Initially I was holding down the homelink button continuously when pressing on the remote.

Just out of a whim last week, I simply pressed and /released/ the homelink button, got the orange blinking light, then pressed the remote till it went green.

Then programmed into the opener as others have said and it worked perfectly first try.

I don't remember exactly what the instructions said, but I managed to interpret it as press and hold the homelink button but it really meant press it once and let go.

I.e. A sentence like "Press the home link button, then hold your transmitter close and press the transmitter button till the homelink button light flashes green" Can be pretty ambiguous.

I have a 2014.

Press Learn, then press/hold HomeLink button

This method worked just fine...
Beginning with the 2015 T4R parked in garage:

1. Press garage door opener's 'learn' button
2. Press a HomeLink Button and hold for a couple of seconds (with my old LiftMaster Pro, until the garage light flicked off)
3. Press programmed button to test, and viola!! Door opens/closes as expected

Here is the weird part- when I first tried this parked on the right side of the garage, this didn't work at all. Tried and tried... I spent to obligatory 30 minutes or so till I was frustrated and stopped.

Later, when I parked on the left side of the garage, it worked just fine and on the first try.

These are going to be the buttons numbered 1 2 3 that are in the overhead console where your Atrac and crawl control buttons are. At least that is where they are on my 2017 TRD Pro. I simply programmed button 1 for my garage door opener.

Look in your owner's manual for instructions on how to link with the garage door opener.

Another bump for this. I went crazy trying to set up homelink when I first got my 2015 SR5, with no luck. Tried again after reading this thread... First try.

My manual specifically says to hold homelink and press and release the door opener... I'm just held both for 15 seconds until the homelink flashed green.

I feel like I tried so many combinations, but sometimes you just need to step away for 2 months and come back with a clear head.

I just got it setup on my 2019 ORP. I tried by pressing remote button and '1' on 4Runner simultaneously for new seconds...and voila!
