garage floor - Rustoleum Epoxy?

In anticipation of a new 4runner purchase I am redoing my garage. Actually, finishing the garage. Drywall was up, but the joints were not smoothed out.

Got it all mudd'ed and painted and now going to do the floor. I looked at the plastic tiles and mats that go down on the floor, but those were pretty expensive (for garage flooring). I bought the Rustoleum package and understand that the prep for Epoxy on the floor is critical.

Anyone else done the Rustoleum or Quickrete epoxy garage floor treatments? GF and myself just went to home-a-rama locally where 9 out of 10 houses had this done and I thought it looked great.

I am just worried mine will start pulling up from hot tires.

The Rustoleum package does not come with muratic acid and they specifically suggest against it in the instructions. It comes with a "mild citric acid cleaner" that supposedly preps the floor.

I helped (drank beer and watched) my buddy do his.. it REALLY helps when you want to spray/sweep out the floor.. I'm not sure I would do mine though, as it is pretty slippery when wet (which, in minnesota the garage has snow melting in it 9 mos. out of the year). He had some sand-stuff that he put on the steps. I guess if I were to do it I would put that stuff all over..

Anyways, to your question, I noticed he worked really hard to get the existing oil spots up as much as he could, using that acid stuff.. a couple applications over the course of a few days.. they never came completely out.

4 years later it has held up pretty well (not peeling or chipping)..

I did my garage floor with that stuff (I think, bought at Home Depot?) about two years ago. I am very pleased with it. I did not put down the paint chips though. It is simply a grey floor. It has held up very well over the past two years and it was very easy to apply. It is very slippery when wet but aren't all shop floors?

Excellent guys - Thanks for the replies. I cleaned the damn floor with the acid 2 days ago, but the humidity around here keeps getting above 80% so I have been waiting to paint. The instructions said to not apply when the humidity was around 80%.

But, very glad to hear they floors are keeping in shape.
