Garmin Nuvi install

Thought I'd share my Garmin GPS installation in pictures. I decided to install the unit in the useless compartment below the A/C dials. It is also hardwired to a hidden 12v outlet in the center floor console. At first I thought the unit would not acquire a signal so far down, but the signal meter is at full strength even when the 4Runner is in my garage, so I'm guessing the newer GPSs are way more sensitive than before.

Looks good, that is exactly where I hid the plug for my sat. radio. Where is the antenna located on your Nuvi? I have a nuvi 350 with a flip up antenna so my gps would never fit in that compartment.

I have a Nuvi 260W and the antenna is internal.

Did you just splice into the existing 12v in the center console? I never even thought about removing that pocket to mount my gps. I'll have to do it tonight. Definately better than in the window for all to see.

Yes, I used a wire splice connector.

Any pictures of the bezel? How is it when your driving, is it annoying to look in that direction? I was going to mount mine there, but was concerned with the viewing location, especially when the cup holders are in use.

Wow. I just thought of a whole lot of other things I can do now with that drawer removed (or enlarged). Great work!

I recently did this same mod- added another 12v outlet and hid it under the center console... I stuck in a cig lighter and tried it out while my gps was on- and at that exact moment it blew the fuse in the box. Is ths normal? do I have to upgrade that fuse size?? let me know
