I'm kinda in the same boat as 02Sport. I have an '01 Limited and had it in my mind that I might like to get the OEM NAV and retrofit it until I started playing with the 6-disc changer and decided that I like it pretty well. So now I'm looking into the portable NAV systems as well and have been trying to compare the Magellan Roadmate series with the Garmin StreetPilot series. The down-side is that it is portable and thus easier to steal than a dash-mounted unit. 
Thanks for the link to GPScity.com hubbabubba. Those videos are pretty cool. I watched the ones for both the Roadmate and the Streetpilot. Here is my thinking so far....
- I like the look and feel of the Roadmate a little better. I also like that you can get the 500+ with a 256MB CF card and not have to get the 700 with the built-in hard drive (I just can't see it holding up long-term with regard to heat and vibration).
- The Streetpilot offers a remote which is nice and a supposedly better mount as well.
- Garmin is supposed to be releasing the StreetPilot 2660 with dead reckoning soon but I'm not sure how useful that will actually be for me since I'm not generally obscured where I drive.

well after checking those out, i took the plunge and ordered it: hopefully it works great! not as nice as factory but i think it'll do

The 60C looks interesting. What is the "usa autorouting" kit? I'm wanting it just for road trip type stuff and city driving, not geocaching.

I recommend the autorouting kit - unfortunately, I bought all that stuff separately.
The City Select software is a must for highly detailed maps. You download certain regions from your PC to the Garmin. It depends on your area but for me, the whole state of Louisiana fits in the Garmin's memory, otherwise, you usually download the regions along your route.
Even if you miss a turn, the City Select will reroute you based on your present location.
The 60C is transreflective, so you can see it very clearly even in direct sunlight. It is backlit but using the backlight uses up the battery so the cig adapter is a must.
The 60C's screen isn't as large as the units designed for auto use only but it looks great if you mount it high.
Probably the only thing wrong is that the City Select locates my house across the street from it actually is.

Is there a way to work it from a MAC? I don't use PC's... maybe I'm ok with OSX?

Well, some bad news, it only works with PC's according to the manual. That's unfortunate since MAC users should also be able to use it.
Come to think of it, I don't think there's a MAC usb driver for the 60C or any other of the Garmin GPS units. I checked with Magellan units and they don't support MAC's either.

I have a 2610 that I shuffle between my 4runner and my car. I'm also in Canada and have both the Mapsource Canada and US.
Been using it since February, and have upgraded the firmware 3 or 4 times, always seems to have more features than the time before. I bought it for my wife to use mostly :angel: , that said she has had her share of frustrations with it. Its fairly technical but I find it easy to use, still if you are technically challenged it may not be the right one for you.
The only thing I don't really like is the power / speaker cord. It would be much nicer to have it output directly from the device or give the ability to hardwire it to the vehicle. It works well but I like to have a neat dash and this is clutter.
