Gas cap suction

Hey guys,

I went to fill up my new-to-me '99 4Runner the other day and when I unscrewed the gas cap, there was a LOT of suction. I'm talking 3-4 seconds of strong-sounding pressure. Is this something I need to worry about? It's my first Toyota. I'm used to Honda's and have never experienced this situation.

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

How slow did you unscrew it? 3-4 seconds is way longer than it takes to unscrew the cap, did you just crack the seal and let it vent, or what? As above, if it didn't seal properly THEN you'd have problems, I'm guessing it's working as intended.

I unscrewed the gas cap normally (slowly) and then when the gas cap was completely removed, it still continued to suck for about 3 seconds.
