Gas Gauge Issue

Today I did some work on my 4Runner. I removed my brush guard which had lights on it and I also added some decals. But when I went to start up, my gas gauge was reading... well wrong. I had just filled up yesterday. I drove it to a gas station and filled it up. It would only let me fill 4 gallons before it topped off the tank. Then i started my car up again. Same problem. The gauge would read the correct reading for a second, then it would drop below empty and my gas light would be blinking. I drove around for a bit and came back home. I opened my hood and disconnected/reconnected my battery. Still nothing. So I turn to my good people on t4r about my problem. I hope you guys can help.

I dont really think its a problem because i disconnected them earlier when i removed my brush guard.

Well I decided since my lights werent hooked up anymore to remove the wiring. That wouldve been fine except I forgot to disconnect the battery so next thing i know my car is smoking and all my lights wires are fried. D'oh. I feel stupid. I think it is a fuse.

Thunderup--

Have you found a solution? I've got the same problem: for the first 60 miles or so on a full tank, my gauge reads empty w/ a flashing gas light, then for the rest of the tank it reads full w/o light... Learning to live with it but it's pissing me off!

Nope, I just am counting miles. This is apparently an unknown issue.
