gas milage improvement

Hello,
I am new here and am sure this question has been asked a million times.....
I just bought a 90 with an automatic....31x10.5x15 tires and around 220k.....
love the rig.....problem is i am getting under 150 miles to the tank....shouldnt it be alot better then that....has a k&m cold air kit on it and it idles fine...new plugs and wires ....what can i do to improve the gas milage....

Make sure your engine is running as good as it did when it left the factory. Hows your compression/timing/ cat converter is free flowing/fuel injectors spraying as they should?

If 31s are not stock, get smaller tires or re-gear.

Swap to a 5 speed.

Go easy on the skinny pedal.

I have 33s and I'm usually in the 200-225 range on a full tank so definetly sounds like something is wrong.

Agreed, I'm on 245/75/16 and manage about 320 a tank on average.

swap tires, when I got rid of some over sixed 16's and dropped back down to stock size fifteens I picked up a few mpg, I get about 220-240 around town and just about 300 on highway if I keep the rpm's under 3k

what it comes down to is that those of us rocking the old runners with the auto tranny have a slow truck, you can beat it into going faster by having a heavy foot.... look at your driving style and see if that changes anything, it makes a HUGE diffenerce in these old rigs

not to mention you live in Nampa aka greater bosie, its nothing but stoplights down there, everytime i come down from McCall my Mpg drops just from a day of running around town, lots of stop and go

Which engine? 3.0 auto is even worse on dinosaur. 22re manuals pull vastly better fuel economy. If your 4runner is stuck with the Combo Of Misery, only the basic, already mentioned things will help.

Also, where are you driving? If that's, say, 100% stop-go city commuting, that sounds about what an auto would get. On a 22re manual (on 35s) I get about 220mi/tank with 50/50 street and highway driving. But I fill up early. ~18mpg here.
