Gas mileage question

Ok went back to auto zone to get MAF. Cleaner and a dry filter. Grabbed the scanner to clear codes and had it read them again. Ironically it was only showing the 0171 and the and the c1201. The converter code and abs codes were gone. So while changing filter I noticed my new pcv valve and grommet were not sitting flush. I pulled it out and the grommet was toast ,totally torn at top. Could this be the culprit?
Any insight to why abs codes were gone?

Ok got a new grommet and have to say it fits so much better than last one. A lot tighter and no movement.. I think this may have been the problem.

Perhaps I missed it in the preceding posts, but did you use aftermarket PCV and grommet?

Cel came back on this morning. Went ahead and ordered Denso O2 sensor. 58 shipped from rock auto. MAF looked good when I cleaned the other day. I still put in paper filter.

i got the 420 code for a long time, finally replaced the 2nd o2 sensor last week and that fixed it. Good luck

P0420 from what I understand can sometimes be fixed by replacing O2 sensors but usually has to do with Catalytic Converter.

Most of the time changing the aft O2 sensor clears the 420 code. In addition to the MAF sensor cleaning, run the Seafoam through the vacuum line. You will be amazed at how well your T4R will run.

I didn't even think about Seafoam, that stuff works miracles.

Since you didn't say what the numbers are, my wife's 06 GT got about 17 around town, and about 23 on the highway (at 70+). If you're getting mileage that good, it's great for a 3rd gen. I average 17+ but have about 500 lbs extra weight. 16 city/19 highway is pretty good for a 3rd gen.

Seafoam, like any after-market product (Autozone or Baxters) is BAD if not used properly and in extremely small amounts such as an 1/8 or 1/4 cup through the PVC vacuum hose. Nothing is better than Chevron Techron, synthetic oil, regular maintenance and filter changes. Get a good K&N. I've used a very small amount of Seafoam, cleaned my MAF, my throttle body, went to equalized fuel injectors among a few other things after I went over 300K. I could feel a real difference in my throttle response and my gas mileage went back up to around 19-20 again. The 3.4 is a solid engine and doesn't need any additives (IMO) so use with extreme caution! The following are two short video clips.

Well, o2 sensor replaced. All was good for about a day until my ride home from work this morning. Lights came on again. Prob gonna jus go ahead and order MAF sensor.

Got codes read again today. P0420 is gone but p0171 is still there. Hopefully new MAF cures it. Mc pressure sensor code is back too.

Just an update. I replaced the MAF sensor with a new denso last week. No cel have shown since and my gas mileage is better than ever.
