Had a P0171 a couple weeks ago & noticed a strong smell of gasoline in my garage after shutting it off. Forum search indicated it was likely a vacuum leak or a MAF issue amongst a few other things. I was leaning towards a vacuum leak since my hoses are original. Thanks to [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] & [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] channel, it made quick work of confirming my suspicion. Smoked out the leak. It was where the rubber hose that connects to the throttle body meets the plastic intake tube. Had to use electrical tape as a temporary fix. After about 400 miles the code is still gone & don't see it pending like I did when I cleared it before using the tape.
Reminder to myself for next time, do not apply too much tension on the electrical tape or it'll make fitting the large rubber hose to the plastic intake tube almost impossible.
