Gas mileage: V8? V6?

I have an '04 Sport 4x2 with the V8:
My first two tanks with the V8 were 19.4 and 19.0, getting on it more than I should, A/C on the entire time (I'm in AZ), and ALL stop and go traffic (no solid freeway trips). I have around 650 miles in it now.

Just curious to see what everyone is getting. Not that we bought these for gas mileage, but my Expolorer Sport and Grand Cherokee both averaged around 13's (uhhhggg)!

If you are measuring your milage by looking at the dash computer MPG display you should be aware thet it shows about 2 MPG higher than the actual MPG. Why Toyota chose to program it this way I'll never know... other vehicles I have are very accurate.

I have the V6 4x4 and I get about 17 to 19 MPG depending upon my mix of highway miles. I'm never in real stop and go city driving and I don't have a very heavy foot so my milage is fairly decent for the size of the vehicle... I would really love a diesel though!
 
I'm getting around 13.5 or so. I increased the tire size with BFG AT KOs from stock and I have a yakima basket on top, so I've decreased my fuel efficiency a bit. I have an '04 Limited V8 4WD.
 
I'm somewhat anal about tracking the mileage of my vehicles. :D Records of every fill up on an Excel spreadsheet, etc.

After putting 15,630 miles on my 03 V8 4Runner my lifetime average is 16.781 MPG. I average 15.6 MPG city and 19.7 MPG highway. These are actual numbers not what spits out of the trip computer.

I have a somewhat heavy foot and rarely drive less than 70 on the highway so I'm pretty happy with the numbers. They are way better than I used to get out of my 92 Bronco (13.2 city and 16.1 highway).

I thought I was the only one! My total average is 21.40mpg and my last fillup got 22.79mpg.
 
After the lift and with the bigger tires I get an average of 17-18 MPG with 50/50 mix of highway and city driving. This is after correcting odo error with GPS. 4wd obviously doesn't help mileage.

I drive 75-85 MPH on the highway on average, but I dont drive fast in the city at all.

YOu should notice a good increase in mileage as you get to the 10k mark.

I did notice a noticeable decrease in mileage after the lift and tires with highway driving. I would estimate 2MPG at 80MPH. Difficult to give exact figures due to change in temp (run the A/C and strong winds).
 
like a couple of other guys, ive been keeping an excel spread sheet too. i've only filled up 6 times (i'm at ~2400 miles) and have been averaging close to 19 mpgs (80% highway, 20% city). man, and i drive like a grandma too!

Spreadsheet maniac, too...

15.69 MPG, 6 tanks to date and 1534 miles so far...

All stop 'n go commuting, with the AC on...
 
I'm not alone! I too use excel :arrow:

I get about 17-19 with my 4x4 V6 and thats with a 60x40 split of city/highway

I just check mine every couple of fill-ups but mine is just like yours. Around 15.5 city and 18-19 highway (kind of hard to tell since I've never had a highway only run). But the gas where I live is some of the lowest price in the country. Running $1.79 today :)

Yup, I did a U-turn at the light when I saw gas was at $1.83 for regular. I wasn't sure how long it'd last so I figured I'd fill up just in case :eek: :D
 
LUCKY BASTARDS!!!!

I'm in the Bay Area in CA and regular is like $2.30-2.4 and premium $2.50 to $2.60. This is from earlier this week. I'm seriously looking at a Prius for a DD now :)

I keep track of all my mileage, service work, etc., in an Access database I wrote. Been keeping track of that stuff for years. Always interesting to go back and look at the gas prices over the years.

Well I guess it is driving habit, but yours seem low for the v6.

I always try to maintain momentum as much as possible and avoid hard acceleration. BUt sometimes I just have to nail it a bit, to avoid the engine getting lazy ;) But seriously I notice that when my gf drives my runner she gets at least 2mpg less than I do and she doesn't drive any faster, just she seems to brake and accelerate more tha I do.
