Gas Mileage

I was wondering what most people are getting for fuel mileage with the new 4Runners? Mine is 2005 V8 and checking it manually I've been averaging 18.4 MPG over the past 4k miles. Don't know if that's about average for the V8 or what... be interested in hearing what others are getting. I've heard that changing the air intake system to a K&N can add as much as a mile per gallon! Unfortunately they don't have anything that will work the 2005 V8 just yet. I contacted them and they said the unit's for the older V8's will not work for the 05. Must have changed something that I'm not aware of for my 05. Anyway... I'd like to hear what others are getting for mileage....

I've got about 900 miles on my '05 V8 and I've averaged about the same as you did which has really impressed me since my '04 V6 got close to the same! At first I was concerned about getting the V8 due to gas mileage, but it really isn't any worse than the V6.

2003 V8 (non VVT-i): with mostly highway mileage I'm getting around 18 MPG. In the winter w/o A/C, tires at 38 PSI, and driving the highway under 65 MPH, I can get 20 MPG. With a mix of about half city half highway it drops to around 15 MPG.

Keep in mind that the odometer under-reports by about 3%. I & others have checked this with a GPS - unless they corrected it for 2005, but doubtful.

Therefore we're getting about 3% better mileage than the odometer says, and about 6-7% worse than what the trip computer says!

Are the VVT-i V8's really doing that much better?

You guys with the V8s do pretty decent on mileage. With my '03 V8 I avg. about 13-14 mpg...mix between city and hwy. I drive pretty hard so that could have something to do with it. I also have upsized revos.
