Check engine light. ran codes at AZ, the usual MAF or O2 code. Took off air intake and sprayed MAF filiments with electronics cleaner. Reset ECU and code still exists.

Per tank I get about 270 m + about 3 gal left.

Is this low?
Should I look at the O2 replacement?
I stripped the bottom screw to the MAF, any sugestions on getting it out?

At last full up I got 293.3 and was only able to put 14.058 gallons in the tank. I should see about 320-350 if my damn gas gauge would read right.

whats the code thats coming up?
 
Gas mileage and 4Runners is very dependant on how you drive and I like to accelerate and I like to keep it over 75 on the highway but most of my drivng is around town and I get almost 17mpg which is only at about 250 a tank with about a 15 gallon fill up.
I'd be happy with 270 which is what my mom gets in her '99 Limited.
 
P0171 - System too Lean (Bank 1)

The MAF filiments looked clean, but I cleaned them anyway. Since I could not remove the sensor from the intake hose I took the entire intake appart, and was able, from what I could tell, spray the MAF sensors from the engine side, while it was attached to the intake hose.
 
you may have to replace the maf.

do you have a warranty?

if so, this is covered.. be sure you tell the dealer you have a warranty before they do the work.

I'm jealous. I als like to drive as you describe and I'm lucky to get 15 mpg. At fill up with about 16 gallons, I get about 230 on the odometer. I've increased stock rim and tire size but can't figure out how off my odometer is.
 
I just bought the ride with 74k from a private seller. I could not immagine having any type of warrenty.

Do any diagnostic computers pin-point what sensor is bad. I know with this code the AZ computer narrows it down to the MAF and 2 O2 sensors.
 
I too have an 01' SR5 w/ the 3.4L V6 and i get 350-400 miles per fill-up. When my resetable odometer reads 300, i almost usually fill up, and there is still a 1/4 tank left according to the needle. On my "all hwy" trip to NJ from FL last year, I was doing 400 miles per fill-up. I love my K&N FIPK2 and constantly keep an eye on my tire pressure.
 
I do have the +1 size up from stock which is 265/75/16 and even if I just spend half the tank on the highway my mileage goes up over 18mpg but around town I see anywhere from 15.8-17 flat but rarely ever higher than that.
 
My 01 SR5 4x4 got 280 miles on my last fill up, and that was when the fuel light just came on.

uh, somethings wrong here.

you are NOT getting 28mpg (400 miles on 14 gallons -- 14 is about when the light goes on) in an 01 4runner, im sorry.
 
My light comes on at 200 almost everytime mixed driving in crappy Los Angeles traffic.;... I usually pump 13 or sometimes 14 gallons...
 
I've noticed a HUGE difference in mileage between stop/go city traffic and freeway driving.

Living in north Jersey, I get 15+mpg running errands, going in/out of the City, and dealing with East Coast traffic.

On a recent trip to VT, I got over 22mpg (all highway).

I'd probably do better than 15city if I had a lighter foot, but sometimes in this crazy part of the country (most densely populated) you have to move quickly to get anywhere...
