gas mileage

Hi,

I have a coworker who recently purchased a new 08 sport v6 and when he fills up his tank the range gauge only hits about 320 miles. He usually gets about 320 miles to the fill up too so I assume its not a gauge problem. I usually get about 360-380 to the fill up in my 04 sr4 v6. We should have the same 23 gallon tank right? Any ideas as to why this is occuring? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

He/she chickens out. Once the gas gauge gets below a 3/4 they get scared and refill Seriously, driving style can make a huge difference... Also If I fill mine, drive it a 100mi and refill it the total miles avail goes down. If I do it 2-3 times in a row my range meter will say 300-320 rather the more normal 425.

FWIW, my '06 V8 Limited shows 360 miles automatically when I fill up. It's fun to make the tank last longer than that, though. take that on board computer

He/she chickens out. Once the gas gauge gets below a 3/4 they get scared and refill Seriously, driving style can make a huge difference... Also If I fill mine, drive it a 100mi and refill it the total miles avail goes down. If I do it 2-3 times in a row my range meter will say 300-320 rather the more normal 425.

The last 5 tanks of gas or so that I have purchased have only been half tanks of gas, and every time I have refilled it, the total miles available has decreased, but my gas mileage has not. I think next time I am going to wait until I get to just about empty before I refill to see if the total available miles goes up.

i don't keep track of how long i can go on one tank, but i generally wait until about 15 miles of driving AFTER the fuel-low warning light comes on. one time i was really tired after a long day at work and i forgot to get gas after the light came on. i ended up driving about 25 miles before stopping for gas.

i generally get about 23mpg on the freeway and i drive conservatively. no punching it to get on the freeway, generally stick to the slow lane as i can't afford tickets and don't punch it off red lights or accelerate that fast unless i'm in a situation that specifically requires me to do so, to avoid an accident or whatever. i find this kind of driving definitely helps with the gas mileages.

Mine goes back up but it takes 2-3 tanks. I don't like to go below about 1/6 of a tank, I usually refill at 1/4-1/6.

I agree that it appears to be related to one's driving style, type of driving, loads involved and when the tank is filled.
I usually wait until the gas gauge is 1/4 or less full (unless it is late fall or winter). I usually see 360-380 miles on the display after a fill up.
After a recent towing trip, it dropped from 379 to 344 (my MPG dropped from 17 MPG (not towing) to 9.48 MPG (towing)).
Last fall during a trip I saw 405-410 on the display (up from 360-380) for several tanks of gas but that was with 19-21 mpg as well.

FYI, all MPG figures are calculated since the display on my 4Runner is always overly optimistic.

I never reach 350. It's always within 341 thru 349 (highest). I pour 91 octane tho, maybe that's the reason. Or maybe i should fill it up to the brim and see how much i get.

yea i tested it after i filled up. i put the mode on miles to be driven with that tank of gas which was 372 and i punched it out of the gas station and it dropped 1 mile so it is on driving style or if your towing somethin
