Gas Mileage

Worse gas mileage AFTER installing new Cold Air Intake, both O2 sensors, and rotating the tires...

I was getting around 19-22, now getting 17-19 driving like a grandma, taking inside lines... Everyone says it's because the intake gave me more power, and so I'm driving harder, but I'm not! I'm super easy on the throttle at lights, cruise control at 65 on the freeway, etc.

(K&N intake, Yes I'm aware that if you oil it wrong, it will screw up your MAF)

Any ideas?

You're driving a bit harder because you like your new intake?

It doesn't take much to make your mileage suffer....I'd guess it's a combination of crappy winter gas, and your driving....due to the new intake. Also, what Clemson said...reset the ECU.

EDIT: Well, you edited yours....so I'll edit mine. It's not your driving. :)

Did you pull the negative battery terminal for a few minutes after the changes? You might to reset the system.

I did... How do you do that?

My buddy cleared the check-engine code (for the 02 sensors... like 3 times until I replaced both), but I'll assume that's not the same thing XD

Haha thanks. Yeah, you could be entirely correct. If I can't figure it out, I'll continue tracking my mileage and driving light (most of the time XD)

Unhook the neg battery terminal, and let it sit for 10 mins. It should "reset" the ECU so that it looks for data with a fresh slate..instead of using fuel and spark maps that it created when you were running with bad O2's.

CAIs generally will at least initially cause worse mileage.

More air = more fuel consumption.

Yeah, I've heard it one way and experienced it the other.

I installed an intake on my old Explorer and the mileage jumped ~3mpg better.

But I'm sure one car could react differently to the change.

You know, I was thinking I already did that, but never after I swapped the 02 sensors... We'll see if that changes anything, thanks!
