Gas pedal s[ace issue Q

I did a search but couldn't find anything on it. I just recently borrowed a 2008 4runner sport and here is the issue. The gas pedal is literally right next to the side piece that runs along side the center piece area. So if you try to push the pedal with anything other than the outer half of your right foot, your right foot hits the panel and you cannot fully press the pedal. does that make sense? I'm trying to see if all of them are like this or not. Compared to every car I've driven I've never head a pedal space issue...

It's kind of hard to tell based on your description. A picture would be helpful. There are some pictures in the foot pedal recall sticky at the top of the page that show normal pedal placements. Here's one in particular to compare to:

Ok so I compared it to another 2008 today and my gas pedal is like 1/2inch to 3/4 of an inch shorter. Hers didn't seem to have the issue of my foot hitting. Is there a way I go to a NON-MODIFIED pedal?
