Gas Question

Here's the story....My friend has a 03 Runner and he told me that when he fills up his gas tank, on the miles range on the display above the climate control ses he has over 400 miles left. I have a 06 runner, and mine ses I have between 320-340. How is that? is the 06 gas tank smaller or something? I just don't get it.....some answers please. Is there something wrong with my truck because its not saying that?

My 06 usually reads over 400 miles left when I fill up. Try resetting yours. How you drive can affect how it calculates the distance left.

It depends what average fuel consumption you have been recording. For example if I just have a very frugal tank like 22mpg, when I fill up the range will reset to over 400, if I did 16mpg it would only go to 350 odd, but as you drive it adjusts all the time depending on your current driving style.

It's been posted a lot that the trip computer is not accurate, so I wouldn't spend much time worrying about its output. Leave it set on "Outside Temp". :D

When you pull up to the pump to fill your tank next time toggle the electronic display to show miles left to drive and hold the "reset" button for a couple of seconds. Then get out and fill your tank. Shortly after you drive away from the pump, your display show now read 420+ for the V8 and 430+ for the V6. This is the factory guesstamation based on the window's sticker mpg and not your own.

or do it the old fashion way like i do it, take the mileage, divide by how many gallons, and voila you got ur gas mileage;): I've never had a car with an accurate or close to accurate mpg reading.

Hold the reset button before I turn the car off? or after I turn the car off?
