hey guys i have been observing my fill ups the last year. and i used to pump 13 gallons at 1/4 tank left. now the last few fills i have been going to light on and i just pumped today the nozzle clicked at 12.7 gallons when i pulled into the lot the light was on. how could this be? any suggestions? my tank has never been hit or damaged in any way as i have checked and even if there is a bit of sediment in the tank i can understand, but a few gallons of sediment?

I don't think your problem is sediment. I think your problem is with the sender which is in the tank with the pump. I seem to recall T4R are notorious for gas gauge's not reading correctly.

Just today, I filed up my 98 with 77,000 miles to make a trip. The odometer revealed it had been 187 miles since last fill up. The fuel gauge showed slightly more the 1/4 tank left.

The fill up took 10.4 gallons.........so my gauge is not reading correctly, but my MPG was pretty good since changing my plugs!!!

our gas gauges arent very accurate at all. hah. my gas mileage went up when i went to a lighter oil. went from 15.5mpg to 18!!! but now its hot out so the AC will bring it back down...

ive read that the 99 4runners have issues with giving the wrong info on when the light needs to turn on... read it somewhere on here.

my fuel gauge is pretty weird too. it would show half on when I'm at a stopped light then when I accelerate I would be a little higher than half. now I get about 180-200 miles on a full tank lol.
