Ok so i was running a bit low on gas the other day, So i run down to the local gas station and fill up.

Now The Needle was directly on the E- Line. And yes i was on a level surface.

Now when i started to fill it up it got to 16 gallons, Then 17 then i got to 17.995 Gallons!!! WTF? Isnt the tank only a 18 gallon tank?

Just thought i'd share that with you.

i have filled mine up past 17.5 before but that took some time i kept pumping gas once the pump stoped

The Funny thing is though my gas light wasnt even on. And i left the pump going while i sat in the truck cause it was freezing out. And once i heard it click and stop pumping i got out and saw 17.995 gallons! haha I must have a bigger tank?

One time back in the summer me and my dad was going riding 4wheelers so we stopped to gas up the runner and I already had a quarter tank and some how my dad got 17 and something gallons in it. No clue how.

I believe that there is an inaccuracy with the station pumps in the very cold weather, I heard that somewhere, can't remember the details for the life of me!!! (I don't think it's in our favour either!!!):awais:

just an idea, is your tank dented anywhere? this can cause your gas light not to come on. i think i remember reading that once. anyone know about this? mine comes on... and i have a few dents :)

The most I have ever filled up a tank was about 17.8 gallons. Filled to the brim, OEM tanks will hold 18.5 gallons (or so says Toyota). The light comes on with somewhere between 2-4 gallons left in the tank. One time I managed to make it 65 miles after the light went on. Filled up about 17.1 gallons. Definitely do not recommend doing this often

some colder states oxygenate the fuel for emission purposes. ive noticed odd octane percentages while on road trips, such as 85, 87.5.....
this might be the cause of your problem since once the fuel settles the oxygen may rise. not sure, just an assumption.

I was wondering about this as well. In my manual it says the gas tank is 18.5 gal. But the other day I filled it with 18.75 gal. And I didn't even think I was that low. I feel like I'm paying for more gas I'm getting and it sucks haha. I thought about going in and asking the clerk how I could roll in with -.5 gallons in my tank but decided against it...
