I have a 1999 4runner SR5.
So anyways, the left gauge cluster main light went out, so I went in there to try to fix it. I couldn't get a definite answer from anyone here, through my research or even the automotive people at pepboys which size the bulb was. They said their computer said a 74, 158, and 194.
The 158 and 194 were definitely way to big. The 74 is what all the rest of the bulbs in the gauge cluster are, but that's smaller than 3 three main bulbs. So I tried a 24 size, and that was too big. So I was stuck with the 74. I put it in, and it looks dumb because it doesn't have the green cap like the stock, but anyways it worked.
So I had to go somewhere and it worked for the most part, but it started completely going off, and then back on.
Any idea what that could be? It seems like the bulb is in there very snug. The bulb itself is smaller than the regular one, but the insert itself seems to be identical. Do you think it could be a short in the wire or something?
Any help is appreciated because I plan on installing LED's sometime in the future, but I can't even figure out changing the regular bulb. :dammit:
