Gauges on my '94

Nineteen

New member
SO as some of you noticed, I just replaced my radiator in my 1994. All seems fine, running as well as ever, except for one problem - the gauges have lost their freaking mind. Both the water temp and oil pressure gauges now just wander back and forth as I drive, with no relationship to the RPM or each other, just wandering left to right to left to right. You get the picture.

What in the world is this thing thinking? Any thoughts?

Don't you hate electrical problems?

I'm thinking that you have a bad ground problem with a sensor of some sort. As for fixing it I have no idea. I really hate electrical problems. All that stuff runs on magic smoke. If you let the magic smoke out it stops working. I could see this being the problem if for instance these devices have a common ground.

I have a similar problem and so I'm going to post it here in your thread to see if our combined problems will get any takers.

My temp gauge jumps all over the place too but only when I turn the heating fan on. I think that the ground for the temp sensor is somehow picking up an electrical current put out by the fan. Or maybe my fan it's the fan that isn't grounded properly.
