Gear Shift Cover Slide Needed

A follow up to my post about not being able to shift my 2018 4runner because that little thin plastic piece that moves with the shifter getting bent and jamming up inside the gear shift assembly:

I took it to Toyota and (a) it's my fault because several drops of some sticky orange substance got in there and gummed it up (I have no idea what--I'm the only driver and all I drink is water and unsweetened ice tea), and (b) the thin plastic piece is not available separately and they have to replace the entire gear shift assembly at a cost of $800.

So, first of all, seriously W.T.F., Toyota?!? A really simple/common thing (a little something spilled) is only fixable by an $800 repair when a tiny piece could be replaced???

But more importantly, how do I get my hands on just the piece? It looks like on older 4Runners you can get the part and it's called

COVER, SLIDE (for position indicator)

on the 5th Gen, it's both the cover slide and a little round piece that snaps into it underneath. Both are really simple thin, fairly decorative pieces.

Anyone know how to get them? Seems like you ought to be able to get them for a couple bucks and replace them yourself.

Thanks!

What the part number on the older 4runners? I bet it fits newer models just fine. Toyota doesn't change much....

I've had mine apart multiple times to clean the dust and dirt out.

Just a few thoughts....
It's only decorative...take them out and be done with it.
It's just a thin piece of plastic, make something similar
