Gear shop in SD

So I spent a good amount of time researching and installing a elocker 3rd member from a FJC. Super stoked to have a locker. Take it on a drive after only to discover that the pinion bearing is going out. Makes the wining noise when accelerating and decelerating.

My options are
A: take out and ship back for a full refund
B: get partial refund and find someone to install new bearings.

Anyone know a person or shop in north San Diego that can do that for a fair price.

Thanks in advance.

SD Truck Shop is my go to. I actually called them 2 days ago to get a quote for install front/rear 4.88 gear, front ARB locker and ARB dual compressor. I called 3 different diff gear shop and truck shop beat them all by a significant amount. They do good work. Actually taking Miss Daisy (GX470) monday for 90K service, timing belt, water pump and thermostat.

Cost me 3600 through ECGS for 4.88s, front/rear lockers, with assembled clam shell and 3rd member. I'll get 650 back for the cores. WITH 5 year warranty. So keep that in mind while you're searching.

Truck shop quoted me 3400 installed with warranty, that's front/rear 4.88, front arb locker and arb dual compressor. What kind of gear did ECGS used? Truck shop gonna use Sierra gears. Never heard of it but jeeps uses it with great reviews. They're also on youtube.

Nitro gears. I already have the compressor. What kind of warranty are they giving you? I went ECGS because of the 5 year up to 35" tires, but obviously I'll be doing the work myself. That's a pretty good deal if the warranty is comparable. Obviously I couldn't get the 4runner down to SD anyway. haha.

I asked them what gears they're going to put in due to being so cheap. I told them I like Nitro and they said Sierra is much better...who knows. I have yukon 4.56 on Lola and been happy with it.

Yeah I had someone on TW tell me Nitros are shit, but ECGS has been using them for years and you really don't see too many failures across the boards. I'll trust the professionals and see what happens. Regardless I'm super pumped, for me and you if you do it. Gonna make Odessa my *****. Won't even need the winch now, hahaha.

Truck Shop is a great place. I think my friend had e-locker issues on his xj and took it to Pro Gear. Or it was San Diego Gear and Axle...can't remember.

San Diego gear and axle is great too. Steve is very knowledgeable.

Had a very similar problem if I recall. He ended up fixing it by going to a different shop. Wasn't the Truck Shop. I suggest you PM him for a recommendation.

phqduphead so who did the work that you are unsatisfied with here?

No one did work I was unsatisfied with. I bought a used 3rd member from Ebay with factory elocker and 3.73 gears. After I installed is when I discovered the pinion bearing is going bad. It makes the whining noise. I'm just looking for a shop to put new bearings in it.
