Geico Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

Not the Gecko spewing an ad, but I recently changed auto insurance and found out that Geico offers mechanical breakdown insurance for $15/6mo if you car has under 12,000 miles when you insure it. (Stays in effect after 12k, just need to keep paying for it) There is a deductible of $250 with this, but it beats the hell out of the factory warranty. And you can take it to almost any shop you want.

I am not sure what other insurance companies offer this, but it is much cheaper than the factor warranty.

The question I would ask is -Who actually underwrites the insurance? There have been so many companies in this business that have gone under and people have wasted a lot of money. This insurance company could be selling this product and it could be underwritten by another company altogether!
