Gen 3 vs. Gen 5

I just got rid of my 2000 T4R with 250K+ miles for a Gen5 (2011).

Altogether, I LOVE my new ride. Here are some of the 1 week noticeable differences I have seen.

CONS
1. No One Touch Access to the Back Window - Anyone figured out how to link the window in the rear gate to a key fob?

2. Air bag for my knees... are you kidding me?!?!? I want the crotch vent back.

3. No Rear Heater... the vents are there... why not the rear heater?

PROS
1. All windows all auto... BRAVO Toyota
2. Not that I sit in the back... but there is most certainly more leg room
3. Third Row Seating (Adults Hate it... kids love it)

Aside from styling and [evolutionary] modern features (blue tooth, backup camera)... I do not see anything revolutionary.... thoughts?

KDSS + next-gen ATRAC + multi-terrain select + crawl mode(s) strike me as a pretty big leap forward...

my heat works in the rear... :driving:

A-Trac I will give you (haven't tried it yet). Since I did not pick up the TE... I will give you KDSS & Crawl Control too... does the TE have a rear heater? I have rear vents that blow what ever is set in the front, but my Gen3 had a separate rear heater altogether (rear controled fan speed and temperature) that my Gen5 is missing.

Did you have a Limited 3rd gen? My '01 SR5 did not have a touch control key fob for the rear window. However, I bought the 3rd gen used, so the key fob may have been lost or an option that mine was not equipped with.

Wait until you get into a head on collision...and you will REALLY appreciate those knee airbags!

Remember, your 3rd gen 4runner only got "Acceptable" in IIHS offset frontal collision. This was based on the standard back then. Your 5th gen is much safer in any type of collision.

The knee airbags (to me) do two things:

1. Protect your knees (obvious).
2. Prevent your legs from swinging everywhere and hitting other hard (sharp) places.

Your crotch won't get much "action" if your legs are in a pretzel! :D
