Gen 4 Pace Setter Exhaust Manifolds / Headers

I got a nice package delivered and thought I might do a short write up.

I just couldn't imagine spending $900 each for Toyota parts that are just going to crack again. After some research on our wonderful forum and reading some other online reviews, I purchased the Pace Setter #750050 (R) and #750051 (L) Exhaust Manifolds on Amazon for $467.98 delivered.

I must admit, I am a little surprised at the quality of these parts. The flange is one piece heavy gauge steel, and looks to be straight. The tubing is thick walled steel tubing. The welds are not very pretty, but thick, complete and strong.

One thing I find strange is the the left manifold arrived with a coat of silver paint and the right did not. This will not matter as I will throw a coat of high heat black on them before install. There is also a lot of welding clag on them.

I believe the clag, rough welds and inconsitency in coating is where the cost savings comes in. At this point, having saved $1,400 in parts, I say it is well worth it. The issues are nothing that a polishing pad on a die grinder and some paint cannot fix.

I will update this thread as the installation happens.

I have also ordered the Magnaflow #15781 cat back exhaust system. Now if only I could find an aftermarket Y-pipe.

Bad news is that business is so busy that I don't have time to do the install myself.

Good news is that business is so good I can afford to have someone else do it.

After a small muddin' incident on Monday a rather large section of my exhaust system removed itself from my truck. Luckily the Magnaflow catback system was delivered on Monday. Coincidence?

Truck and parts are on the lift now being worked on. Update and video to come tomorrow at the latest.

3 manifold bolts broke during removal. Completion tomorrow.

Stopped by the shop today to check progress and inspect the truck.

Can you guess which port was cracked on my manifold?

It's no wonder these things crack like old glass.......The pressure from the bolt flange on the little brazed flare over the gasket seems like a terrible idea. All of the torque is on that little lip.

Here is the magnaflow muffler in all it's glory. It weights about half what the stock muffler weighs

Man those tips are going to look and sound sweet........
Another gripe I had was that the stock pipe exited the rear of the truck. How is Toyota going to sell a truck with a "towing package" and have a tailpipe that is pointed at whatever it is that you are towing?

Their kinda of a manider , not really a header & little bit more manifold . Better built than OEM , the 1s from magnaflow are real n ice but $$$$$.

I didn't know Magnaflow had manifolds or I would have gotten them. Many hours on the Internet led me to the pacesetters.

Also, don't get me wrong, I don't think these are anything special. However, they are much better than the stock ones, and a third the price.

Don't worry JP those from magnaflow are more than headers , just per side . I only mentioned them because their nice & have the cat built on , go on autoanything see what I'm talking about .Think you did good , just not a true header like a JBA or DTs . Probably gotta take a 2nd out to buy the Magna s

I usually consider myself very internet search savvy. However, i am coming up short on any magnaflow headers for my truck. It looks like Magnaflow may only makes a header for the V6.

Married, 2 kids (a 3 year old and a 5 month old), 2 dogs, huge mortgage, own a small business, starting a second company and just got put on BP meds.

Got my truck back yesterday afternoon. I wanted to get a short video / sound clip up, but it's raining so I'll wait.

The very first thing I am happy about is the lack of that horrible ticking exhaust leak.

The second thing I am happy about is the lack of rattling from the pipes and muffler and heat shields that were all loose and rusty.

I keep my truck nice and clean, and most people have a hard time believing that it is 9 years old and has 135K miles. It was KILLING me that is sounded like a crappy Oldsmobile from the 70's.

The third is the Magnaflow cat back. All I can say is wow. It looks sexy, and sounds incredible. When you start the engine there is a definite V8 rumble. When accelerating from a stop there is a deep loud rumble through 2nd gear and everything quiets down in 3rd.

Acceleration is very smooth now and seamless.
